I recently gave a presentation on electric vehicles, and the host introduced me as a 'futurist, someone who, unlike the rest of us, spends a lot of time thinking about the future and what it means for business". It honestly surprised me - don't we all? Maybe, maybe not.

I was always the kid asking the tough questions in class, and was always trying to find the best route between here and where I needed to go. Technology for me, has always been a part of making the route shorter.

I believe we have created a very complex world, and in some cases its complexity for complexities sake, but that it doesn't have to be. The answers are often more simple than we think, but they require us peeling back layers of organisational structure, historic cultural beliefs and the old "we've always done it like that". Technology on the surface appears to make it more complex, but it doesn't.

As a lover of tennis I relate a lot of my business world experiences to this. The game moves very fast, if you don't keep up you'll get blown away very quickly, and it's always about being a couple of steps ahead of the competition. You need the best team you can get and you have to work hard. You must be disciplined, make decisions rapidly on the move, and keep focused. If you've ever watched a Grand Slam event you'll know what I mean.

Melissa Broomhall, Principal Consultant

I'm an Auckland based consultant with broad skills that centre on relationship management. I have more than 12 years experience in senior roles across high profile real estate firms, electricity contractors, and Transpower New Zealand Limited.

My strengths lie in being able to bring together diverse groups for complex projects which have high stakes. When you mention the term 'implosive jointing' in conversation, most people are confused. Basically you wrap frayed electricity cables with explosives while suspended from a helicopter which you then detonate to fuse the cables together. I ran this exciting project for Transpower, managing all the public elements and ensuring everyones needs were met and the project was a success. Not only was it a success, it was also covered in the media and Transpower reputation was improved as a result. If I can manage a project which has many moving parts (horses, pets, affected residents), explosives, and is very public, II'm sure we can work together on your complex project.

Specialities: complex project management, relationship management, external public PR and expectation management, procurement, optimised office process design and tool use (Slack, Salesforce, Hootsuite, Hubspot, Asana etc)
